Riding at Carcanet
Carcanet Farmhouse sleeps up to 10 guests and is a perfect base from which to experience an exceptional riding holiday - easily reached from all cross channel ferry ports.
The Suisse Normande is a fabulous place to ride with miles and miles of well maintained bridleways through beautiful scenery. Experience rides through woods, alongside rivers, along cliff tops and through fields via circular routes directly from the back of Carcanet farmhouse. Rides can be anything from one hour up to full days complete with a typical French picnic.
The horses are trained by our English-speaking friend, Pascal, who lives in a house adjoining one of our paddocks at Carcanet and he organises the rides. Pascal is a natural horseman, whose passion is gently but effectively training quiet and responsive horses who know their job and love their trekking.
Although English riding is available, this is a perfect opportunity to have a go at Western riding with very comfortable saddles. I have personally ridden many times with Pascal and local riders and have never experienced such enjoyable riding previously. Pascal has horses that can ride along the edge of a steep cliff and not give you any cause for concern, can take you for a very safe-feeling fast canter or equally let beginners walk or trot with no fear of being out of control. I am personally a classic nervous rider but have developed so much confidence around these lovely horses and yet have been accompanied by much more experienced friends who have equally found the riding experience exhilarating.
Pascal will assess your horsemanship capability carefully in the arena before taking you out and he is fully registered in France to conduct trekking holidays.
I have shown below a typical riding holiday we can arrange
- Initial lesson/getting to know the horses session in the arena on Sunday
- A half day ride on Monday
- 3 full day rides on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
The cost of the above would be approximately £190 pp, depending on the exchange rate at the time, plus the cost of the farmhouse rental at the appropriate rate for the time of year.
The riding content of your holiday can be as flexible as you like and we can either price up a full package for you or arrange a basic package with the option of extra rides/lessons.
